Observation

5)c)vii) During outdoor play, the children were very spread out on the playground. There were two staff on the playground on opposite sides of the climbing structure and one other staff was some distance away in the open doorway to the school, monitoring children going inside to use the restroom or to get a drink of water. During this time, the two staff on the playground were not actively supervising the children playing on the climbing structure. One staff was facing the gaga pit and was focused on the group of children there, and the other staff was facing the opposite direction, focused on children over on the blacktop. The staff were not shifting their focus back and forth between the climbing structure and these areas. There were several children playing on the climbing structure at this time and the staff would not have been able to prevent or instantly respond to an unsafe or harmful event on the climbing structure.
