Observation

The sliding glass door exit to the outdoor deck and path to outdoor play space was locked and latched at the top and did not automatically unlock or open when handle was pulled. The secondary fire exit pathway, and exit door ,is the main entry to the family home. This is a split level. At the top of the stairs to the licensed upstairs area, the provider has placed a very sturdy baby gate. At a recent WSP fire safety training, licensors learned that this type of gate, one that cannot be kicked open by an adult, presents as a barrier to fire exit. Although the provider did believe it would open if pushed firmly be an adult it did not open when she attempted to demonstrate this.
